SDSU GIS Support

What is GIS?

A Geographic Information System is a framework for capturing, managing, and analyzing spatial/locational and other geographic data. GIS also provides tools to communicate the information derived from these data in the form of maps and other complex visualizations. Many different disciplines use GIS tools: planning, ecology, logistics, engineering, telecommunications, and management.

San Diego State University, through its Education License with Esri, provides current faculty, staff, students, and university affiliates with access to ArcGIS Online and other online services, downloadable desktop software to use on personal computers, and software/application training. These services are accessed using an SDSUid.
